Vedic Birth Chart Calculator

Your Vedic birth chart, called Kundli or Janam Kundali, is the foundational map of your life according to Jyotish. It captures the exact positions of all nine planets at the moment you were born, placed across twelve houses that govern everything from career and relationships to health and spirituality. Kaala uses Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical engine trusted by NASA and professional observatories, to compute your planetary positions with sub-arcsecond accuracy. Unlike generic horoscope apps that rely on simplified lookup tables, Kaala calculates true sidereal positions using the Lahiri Ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Indian government's Calendar Reform Committee. Once your chart is ready, Jyothi, Kaala's AI Jyotish assistant, walks you through what your placements actually mean for your personality, career, relationships, and life path. Every insight includes the astrological reasoning behind it. You will understand not just what the prediction says, but why your chart supports it.

What Your Vedic Birth Chart Reveals

Your birth chart is divided into twelve houses, each governing a specific part of your life. The 1st house (Lagna) represents your core identity and physical constitution. The 7th house governs marriage and partnerships. The 10th house rules career and public reputation. How the planets land across these houses creates a pattern unique to you, one that shapes your tendencies, talents, challenges, and the timing of major life events.

Beyond house placements, your chart reveals your Nakshatra (birth star), determined by the Moon's exact position among the 27 lunar mansions. Your Nakshatra defines your emotional temperament more precisely than your Rashi (Moon sign) alone. The chart also establishes your Vimshottari Dasha sequence, the planetary period timeline that governs which planet's themes are active at each stage of your life.

How Kaala Calculates Your Chart

The calculation starts with your birth location. Kaala geocodes it to precise latitude and longitude using Google Places API, ensuring accuracy even for small towns and villages. Your birth time is then resolved to the exact UTC offset valid at that location on your date of birth, accounting for historical timezone changes and daylight saving transitions.

From there, Swiss Ephemeris computes the true sidereal longitude of all nine Vedic planets using the Lahiri Ayanamsa correction. House cusps are calculated using the Placidus or Whole Sign system. The result is a complete chart with each planet's degree, sign, Nakshatra, Nakshatra pada, and house placement. This data feeds into further calculations including Navamsa (D9), Vimshottari Dasha periods, Yoga detection, and Dosha analysis.

Why Accuracy Matters in Vedic Astrology

Vedic astrology is extraordinarily sensitive to birth time. A difference of just four minutes shifts the Ascendant by approximately one degree, which can change the Ascendant's Nakshatra pada and alter Dasha timing by months. An error of thirty minutes can change the Lagna sign entirely, producing a completely different chart.

This is why Kaala uses Swiss Ephemeris rather than simplified calculation methods. The Moshier analytical ephemeris provides planetary positions accurate to 0.001 arcseconds for dates between 3000 BCE and 3000 CE. Combined with precise geocoding and historical timezone data, your chart matches or exceeds the accuracy of traditional Panchangam calculations performed by experienced Jyotishis.

Understanding Your Chart Results

After generating your chart, you will see the North Indian style Kundli diagram with all nine planets placed in their respective houses. Each planet is displayed with its sidereal longitude in degrees, minutes, and seconds, along with its Nakshatra and pada. The Lagna degree is shown prominently since it is the most time-sensitive point in the entire horoscope.

Below the chart, a planetary position table gives you detailed information for each Graha: sign placement, exact degree, Nakshatra, Nakshatra lord, house position, and whether the planet is in a friendly, neutral, or enemy sign. All of this structured data is then available for AI interpretation by Jyothi, who explains what each placement means for your specific situation in plain, accessible language.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kaala uses Swiss Ephemeris with the Moshier analytical method, providing planetary position accuracy to 0.001 arcseconds. This is the same engine used by professional observatories and research institutions. Combined with precise geocoding and historical timezone resolution, the charts are as accurate as, or more accurate than, traditional manual calculations by experienced Jyotishis.

Three things: your date of birth, your exact time of birth (check your birth certificate for the most precise time), and your place of birth. Birth time is the most critical input. If you do not know your exact birth time, the chart can still be generated, but house positions and the Ascendant may be off.

They use different zodiac systems. The Vedic (sidereal) system accounts for the precession of the equinoxes using an Ayanamsa correction, which currently shifts positions by about 24 degrees compared to the Western (tropical) system. This means your Vedic Sun sign, Moon sign, and Ascendant may differ from your Western chart. Vedic astrology also uses the Dasha system for timing predictions, which has no Western equivalent.
