Beyond house placements, your chart reveals your Nakshatra (birth star), determined by the Moon's exact position among the 27 lunar mansions. Your Nakshatra defines your emotional temperament more precisely than your Rashi (Moon sign) alone. The chart also establishes your Vimshottari Dasha sequence, the planetary period timeline that governs which planet's themes are active at each stage of your life.

The calculation starts with your birth location. Kaala geocodes it to precise latitude and longitude using Google Places API, ensuring accuracy even for small towns and villages. Your birth time is then resolved to the exact UTC offset valid at that location on your date of birth, accounting for historical timezone changes and daylight saving transitions.

From there, Swiss Ephemeris computes the true sidereal longitude of all nine Vedic planets using the Lahiri Ayanamsa correction. House cusps are calculated using the Placidus or Whole Sign system. The result is a complete chart with each planet's degree, sign, Nakshatra, Nakshatra pada, and house placement. This data feeds into further calculations including Navamsa (D9), Vimshottari Dasha periods, Yoga detection, and Dosha analysis.

Vedic astrology is extraordinarily sensitive to birth time. A difference of just four minutes shifts the Ascendant by approximately one degree, which can change the Ascendant's Nakshatra pada and alter Dasha timing by months. An error of thirty minutes can change the Lagna sign entirely, producing a completely different chart.

This is why Kaala uses Swiss Ephemeris rather than simplified calculation methods. Each planet is displayed with its sidereal longitude in degrees, minutes, and seconds, along with its Nakshatra and pada.
