Raj Yoga Calculator

Raj Yoga, literally 'royal combination,' is the most celebrated yoga in Vedic astrology. It forms when a Kendra lord (ruler of the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th house) connects with a Trikona lord (ruler of the 1st, 5th, or 9th house) through conjunction, mutual aspect, or sign exchange. Its presence indicates potential for status, authority, and recognition beyond your birth circumstances. Kaala scans your entire chart for all possible Kendra-Trikona connections, evaluating each one for strength based on planetary dignity, house placement, aspects, closeness of degree, and combustion status. It identifies the specific type (Dharma-Karma Adhipati, Lakshmi Yoga, etc.) and shows when the participating planets' Dasha periods will activate. Here is what most Raj Yoga discussions leave out: presence alone does not guarantee results. The yoga must be activated by the Dasha periods of the participating planets. A powerful Raj Yoga whose planets' Mahadashas fall in childhood or extreme old age may never fully manifest. Kaala shows both the potential and the timing.

Types of Raj Yoga Detected

Kaala detects multiple varieties. Dharma-Karma Adhipati Yoga (the strongest form) is the conjunction of the 9th lord (dharma) and 10th lord (karma). Lakshmi Yoga forms when the 9th lord is strong in a Kendra. Viparita Raj Yoga occurs when Dusthana lords (6th, 8th, 12th) occupy other Dusthanas, creating strength through adversity.

The calculator also checks for Neech Bhanga Raj Yoga, where a debilitated planet's cancellation creates unexpected strength. For each Lagna, it identifies which combinations are possible and whether they exist in your chart.

Strength Assessment Criteria

Not all Raj Yogas are equal. Kaala evaluates six factors. Planetary dignity: own sign, exaltation, or friendly signs produce much stronger results than debilitation or enemy signs. House placement: yoga planets in Kendras or Trikonas amplify the combination.

Aspect support: Jupiter's benefic aspect strengthens results; malefic affliction dilutes them. Degree closeness: planets within 5 degrees form a tighter, more potent yoga. Combustion: if a Raj Yoga planet is too close to the Sun, results are delayed. Retrograde status adds complexity, with results potentially arriving through unconventional paths.

Dasha Activation Timeline

Raj Yoga manifests most powerfully during the Mahadasha or Antardasha of the participating planets. If both run simultaneously (9th lord Mahadasha with 10th lord Antardasha), the yoga's manifestation hits its peak.

Kaala shows when each Raj Yoga planet's Dasha periods occur across your lifetime. This lets you identify the windows of maximum opportunity and also see whether the main activation has already passed. If it has, favorable Antardashas in subsequent Mahadashas still produce echoes of the yoga's effects.

Common Raj Yogas by Lagna

Different Lagnas produce different combinations. For Taurus Lagna, Saturn (9th and 10th lord) is a single-planet Raj Yoga Karaka. For Cancer Lagna, Mars (5th and 10th lord) connecting with Jupiter (9th lord) or Moon (1st lord) forms excellent yogas. For Leo Lagna, Mars (4th and 9th lord) is the Yogakaraka. For Capricorn Lagna, Venus (5th and 10th lord) is the most powerful Yogakaraka in the zodiac.

Kaala automatically detects which Raj Yogas are possible for your Lagna and checks whether the required connections exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most charts have at least one Kendra-Trikona connection, so technically most people have some form. But a strong, well-dignified Raj Yoga activated during productive Dasha periods is much rarer. A weak one may manifest as modest career advancement, while a strong one can bring significant authority and recognition. Strength and timing matter far more than mere presence.

If both planets' Mahadashas have completed, the main activation window has passed. Their Antardashas in future Mahadashas will still produce echoes. Favorable transits over the yoga planets can also temporarily reactivate the combination. The yoga remains part of your chart's potential throughout life, just with diminished activation intensity.

No single yoga guarantees outcomes. Raj Yoga creates potential for status and authority, but results depend on Dasha timing, planetary strength, the overall chart condition, and personal effort. The full chart context always matters more than any individual yoga.
